There are lots of options for SAC students apart from going to uni. Explore your options below.
Want to Take a Gap Year?
If you're not quite sure what you want to do after Year 12, taking a 'gap year' to make up your mind might be the way to go. Find out about organisations which will help you go overseas to work or volunteer at our Gap Year page.
Joining the Defence Forces
Did you know that the ADF offers over 200 different jobs and a variety of pathways into them? You can even start off by taking a well-paid gap year! The first step in a You Session, where trained recruiters look at you as an individual, and try to identify potential careers and pathways for you. The recruiting process can take up to six months, so make sure you book your You Session in the June/July holidays if you're looking to enter the forces straight after school. Take a look at the ADF recruitment website for more information.

Getting Straight to Work
There's nothing like seeing your first full-time salary land in the bank! However, youth unemployment in Cairns is the highest in the state - you need to have something to offer to have a good chance of landing the job. If you have some skills, experience or qualities that employers want, try door-knocking to drop off your resume (this shows employers that you've got initiative) or applying through www.seek.com.au.
